  • Permanent Residence: A family visa gives you the right to live, work and study anywhere in Australia.
  • Access to Medicare: Enrollment in Australia public healthcare system, which provides access to free or subsidized medical services.
  • Education: Children are allowed to study in government schools for free and can also avail study loans through the Higher Education Loan Programme.
  • Travel: Permanent residents can travel to and from Australia for up to five years, and can renew their travel rights by applying for a Resident Return Visa.
  • Work Rights: Most temporary family visas allow the holder to work in Australia. However, the Temporary Guardian subclass 870 visa does not carry work rights.

Visa Subclasses

  • Partner and Prospective Marriage Visas: The Australian Partner and Prospective Marriage Visa provides a pathway for the fiancés and partners of Australian citizens, permanent residents, and eligible New Zealand citizens. This visa subclass includes: Prospective Marriage Visa Subclass 300, Partner Visa Subclass 309, and Partner Visa Subclass 100. You can apply for these subclasses from outside Australia and will need to provide proof of your relationship.
  • Child Visas: The Child Visa Program provides the opportunity to live in Australia for the dependent child of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. This permanent visa includes subclasses for children applying from overseas for Child visa Subclass 101, Child visa Subclass 802. For the adopted child you can apply Adoption visa Subclass 102, Orphan Relative visa Subclass 117 and 837.
  • Parent Visa: The Australian Parent Visa allows citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to sponsor their parents. Options include non-contributory (subclasses 103, 804) and contributory (subclasses 143, 864) visas. The temporary subclass 870 is a long term visa, but does not provide a path to permanent residence. All visas must meet health and character criteria.
  • Other Family Visas: To migrate other family members to Australia, you will need to apply for other relative visas, including permanent visas 115 and 835 for remaining relatives, subclasses 114 and 838 for older dependent relatives, carer visa subclasses 116 and 836, and family relationship visa 461, which allows eligible family members of a New Zealand citizen to live in Australia.

  • To qualify for this visa, you must provide all information, along with documents, to show your genuine relationship with the visa sponsor.
  • You must be outside Australia at the time of application and at the time of the visa decision.
