Permanent From Grant · Priority Sectors · Selective Assessment

Global Talent is Australia's pathway for exceptional talent.

AI, quantum, space, biotech, advanced manufacturing, agritech. You have an exceptional record and have been approached about Global Talent. Between the nomination, the evidence, and the Department's increasingly selective assessment, this visa rewards quality over quantity. For complex cases, our Immigration Lawyer Prateek Maan coordinates nomination and evidence strategy.

Eligibility requirements

Four tests that distinguish Global Talent from other pathways.

The Department is looking for people who will visibly lift Australia's standing in the priority sector.

Internationally recognised talentProminent, recognised achievements. Senior roles at globally significant organisations, published research with strong citation metrics, high-profile awards, patents, speaking engagements at top conferences, media recognition.
High incomeTypically at or above the Fair Work High Income Threshold. For 2026, this sits above AUD $175,000. Future earning capacity also matters.
Asset to AustraliaMust be able to establish in profession in Australia. Presence must benefit Australia (economy, jobs, research leadership, community).
NominatorAn Australian citizen, permanent resident, eligible organisation, or eligible New Zealand citizen with a national reputation in the same field must nominate.
Application process

Two stages: EOI, then invitation.

The Expression of Interest filters cases before the formal visa application. Getting the EOI right is the critical early step.

1

Global Talent EOI submitted

Applicant submits an Expression of Interest summarising international standing, income, and proposed nominator.

2

EOI assessment

4 to 12 weeks. Favourable cases receive an invitation to apply.

3

Formal visa application

Full evidence, nomination, and supporting documentation lodged following the invitation.

4

Decision

3 to 12 months post-invitation, depending on case complexity. Permanent residency on grant.

Global Talent has become more selective in recent years.

Applications with weak income evidence or borderline international standing face sharp refusal rates. Strong cases demonstrate clear contribution to priority sectors with quantifiable impact. Specialist preparation matters.
