Australia maintains several skilled occupation lists, such as the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL). Determine whether your occupation is on one of these lists and whether you meet the relevant criteria.
Skills Assessment
You'll need to have your skills assessed by the relevant assessing authority for your occupation. Each assessing authority has its own set of requirements and procedures for assessing skills. You should contact the relevant authority and follow their guidelines to obtain a positive skills assessment.
Expression of Interest (EOI)
Submit an Expression of Interest through SkillSelect, which is an online platform used by the Australian government to manage skilled migration applications. You'll need to provide information about your skills, work experience, qualifications, and other relevant details. Based on the information provided, you may receive an invitation to apply for a visa.
State Nomination
Some skilled visas require state or territory nomination. If you are interested in state nomination, you should research the specific requirements of the state or territory in which you intend to reside and apply for their nomination if eligible.
Visa Application
If you receive an invitation to apply for a skilled visa, you can proceed to submit a formal visa application. You'll need to provide supporting documents such as identity documents, evidence of English language proficiency, skills assessment results, and other relevant information. Pay the required visa application fee at this stage.
Health and Character Requirements
You and any accompanying family members will need to meet the health and character requirements set by the Australian government. This typically involves undergoing medical examinations and obtaining police clearance certificates.
Visa Decision
After you submit your application, the Department of Home Affairs will assess your application and make a decision. If your application is successful, you'll be granted a visa to live and work in Australia. If there are any issues or additional requirements, the department may request further information or clarification.
