Subclass 500 and some 485 Graduate visas. OSHC required.
A gap of even a day is a technical breach, and in the wrong circumstances, it becomes a cancellation ground. Condition 8501 requires continuous cover for the entire duration of the visa.
For student visas, this means continuous OSHC. Other visa types require equivalent cover. Gaps in cover breach the condition.
Most student visas and some employer-sponsored and temporary visas.

Set up auto-renewal. Policies that lapse because of card declines are still breaches even when unintentional.
Policies that lapse because of card declines or auto-pay failures are treated as breaches even when unintentional. The Department's position is that compliance is the visa holder's responsibility. Many breaches are treated leniently when inadvertent — but repeated or deliberate gaps are not.
